Let Them Work

Let Them Work banner

As part of our work with Still Human Still Here, the Refugee Council is campaigning with the Trade Union Congress for asylum seekers to be allowed to work. Until 2002, this was permitted but the government withdrew the concession, saying it would act as a ‘pull factor’ and encourage people to come to the UK for jobs. But there’s no evidence of this. Forcing people to rely on state support wastes their skills and potential tax revenue.
