As part of our campaign on destitution, the Refugee Council has joined up with other leading poverty charities as part of the Get Fair campaign.
Many refugees, especially those people without full status in this country, are amongst the most vulnerable groups in our society, struggling with real destitution. Most people in the UK are unaware of this, so we take every opportunity when people are talking about poverty to include refugees.
Now, over 50 charities – including Oxfam, Shelter, Help the Aged and Save the Children - have started a new campaign to combat poverty in the UK – and as a partner in the campaign, we will ensure refugee voices are heard. We need to help people better understand the causes of poverty and what it means to be poor. We also want to inspire people to take action in their communities and for politicians to make eradicating poverty a priority.
A key aim for the campaign is to ensure good quality services as a right for all.
That whatever your income, background, creed, colour, physical or mental ability, or immigration status, you can get good basic services and that you are treated well when you are accessing them.
