Write to the Press Complaints Commission

You can write to the Press Complaints Commission (PCC) in two ways:

  • By completing the PCC's online complaint form
  • By sending a letter to:
    Press Complaints Commission
    Halton House
    20/23 Holborn
    London EC1N 2JD

What to include in your letter

In October 2003, the PCC issued a guidance note to all editors about use of ‘misleading or distorted terminology’ in stories about asylum seekers and refugees. If you believe an article uses misleading or distorted terminology, such as ‘illegal asylum seeker’, write to the PCC as this may be a direct breach of their guidance.

The article may also be in breach of the press Code of Practice. Look at a copy to see which part of it you think the article has breached. If you need advice in doing this, call the PCC on 0845 600 2757 (0131 220 6652 if you are in Scotland or 029 2039 5570 if you are in Wales).

Summarise your complaint explaining why you think the Code or PCC guidance has been breached, including copies of any other relevant letters or documents, which might support your complaint.

Send a cutting of the complete article - making sure the name of the publication is clear - and a note of the date on which it was published.
