The Refugee Council’s Development team is delighted to invite you to attend the SCORES Project London Conference on the Role of Sport and Physical activity. As part of the SCORES project, this event seeks to communicate to voluntary sector organisations particularly refugee community organisations (RCOs) and to funders, the true value of sport; and to encourage the development and financial support of social and community development projects which not only increase participation in sports but also recognise the way that sport can be used as a framework for social change.

Funded by the Football Foundation, the Supporting Community Organisations Refugees Engage in Sports (SCORES) is a new project which aims to increase participation of refugees in sports by supporting RCOs and enabling them to develop sports projects which address development issues facing refugee communities and facilitate their integration. As part of this work, the London Conference aims to build RCOs’ awareness of the role of sports and to encourage support from funders and policy makers for refugee sports projects and initiatives. We are also very keen to engage more women refugee communities in sport.

There will be speakers from:

  • Greater London Authority (Sports Participation Fund)
  • London Playing Fields Foundation
  • Sport England
  • Liverworld Community Sports

Other contributors include: Comic Relief, Kick It Out, London Football Association, Volunteering England and Academy of Sport at London Southbank University.

A series of panels and participatory workshops will cover a broad range of topics, including the role of sport and physical activity; developing sports projects; and developing 2012 Games related volunteering opportunities. Participants will have the opportunity to network with colleagues and share experience, talk to funders face to face, and increase their knowledge of how to develop sports projects.
