Meet the funder

Refugee Council seminar for Refugee Community Organisations

Thursday 26 June 2008, 10:00 - 16:00

London

The Refugee Council’s Development Team held a “Meet the funder” seminar for Refugee Community organisations (RCOs) based in London.

Meet the funder events aim to provide RCOs with the opportunity to talk to funders and to provide funders with the opportunity to promote their funding programmes, explain their selection criteria, define their remit of funding and shed light upon their funding priorities. We also usually use the opportunity to flag up any changes, new developments or trends in the funding environment that may have an impact on RCOs or any other information deemed to be of interest for them.

The June seminar gave updates on funding programmes run by the London Development Agency (LDA) and the Capital Community foundation. The seminar also covered Local Area Agreements, a new style of three year funding arrangement between central and local government. London Civic Forum also provided an insight into how RCOs could get involved in the London 2012 Olympic games and maximise the benefits for their communities.

Understanding Local Area Agreements (LAAs) is vital for all Voluntary and Community organisations working at borough level. LAAs have been around for several years but recent changes to the system accelerated the pace at which local funding for the Voluntary Community Sector moves away from grant giving towards contracts and commissioning.
