SMILE national conference

SMILE National Conference, Thursday 10 February 2011, Birmingham

SMILE National Conference
Thursday 10 February 2011, 11:00-4:30
Council House, Central Birmingham

Are you supporting separated refugee children? Are you trying to improve or set up an educational project for refugee children? Would you like to know more about what does and does not work? Are you interested in new research and our project’s action research?

SMILE (Supporting and Mentoring in Learning and Education), a Refugee Council project, aims to reduce the isolation experienced by so many child refugees, by supporting them to access education and after school activities. It also works to promote inclusive education by challenging prejudices related to asylum and raise awareness of the needs of refugee children.

To celebrate the end of the highly successful three year project, and following our 2010 national seminars, SMILE is hosting a national conference in order to:

  • Share our practice model in order to help you improve your services to refugee children
  • Share our action research model
  • Launch our research report
  • Share our research findings and discuss the needs of our client group
  • Share and discuss our recommendations to policy makers

This event will enable you to learn about the educational needs of separated refugee children and young people. You will also learn more about our proven practice model and the reasons behind its success, identified through our action research.

The event will also be an opportunity for you to learn about the final research report, which we will launch on the day.

The full day conference will include keynote speeches (to be confirmed), workshops and excellent networking opportunities, as well as the opportunity to hear from SMILE mentors and mentees.

Key note speakers will be announced shortly – for now please save this date and book early to avoid disappointment.

To book a place at this event, please return the booking form (Word doc, opens in a new window) to:
