Refugees into Teaching

'Moving forward' - supporting refugee teachers

Tuesday 24 June 2008, 10:00 am - 16:00

Leeds

This free conference took place just after Refugee Week and was supported by both the TDA (Training and Development Agency for Schools) and the DCSF (Department for Children, Schools and Families).

It marked the ending of the pilot phase of Refugees into Teaching project led by the Refugee Council and funded by the TDA and launched the start of the next phase of Refugees into Teaching and the Refugee Teachers Network based in Leeds.

The conference aimed to

  • Update and inform, as well as encourage dialogue between, refugee teachers, advisors, teacher trainers, and school employers
  • Launch the Refugee Teachers Network (based in Leeds, serving regions outside of London) and inform you how you can join
  • Explore issues surrounding community cohesion and diversity in the school workforce
  • Disseminate lessons learnt from the pilot phase of Refugees into Teaching (RiT), including models of providing advice and guidance
  • Announce future plans for RiT and encourage input into these from other organisations
