The purpose of this course is to provide a practical guide to recent developments in immigration law, focussing in particular on legislation, policies, practice and case-law. The course is designed for the busy adviser (solicitor or caseworker) who will have reasonably significant experience and knowledge of immigration law and practice.

Workshop:

Language and discourse have become increasingly important in asylum application procedures in many western countries. Cases get decided on the basis of the languages that the applicant speaks (ethno-linguistic identification) and/or on the coherence, clarity or detail of the story they tell (their discourse). The critical role that language and discourse play in asylum application procedures is central to a growing body of research that combines linguistics with ethnography.

Rights of Women and the Asylum Support Appeals Project (ASAP) have developed this new and practical 1 day course, designed to introduce participants to the law that determines who should receive asylum or human rights protection in the UK, how their claim is determined and what financial support they are entitled to. There is a particular focus on the needs of asylum seeking women who are experiencing or have experienced gender-based violence. Participants receive a free copy of Rights of Women'

This is a free training event for Refugee Community Organisations who work with asylum seeking or refugee familes whose children are involved with local authority children's services.

Free refugee housing training for refugee community representatives and housing staff & volunteers in outer East London boroughs. If you give refugees housing information and/or signposting, or work as a volunteer at an organisation working with refugees, then this course is for you.

This course will help those who work with women affected by domestic violence. We will look at issues of service access and culturally appropriate support for women from abroad as well as clarifying the relevant immigration rules.
