The free six-day training course will:
• provide basic and up-to-date knowledge on refugees’ housing and an overview of welfare entitlements;
• enable participants to signpost and network more effectively;
• highlight examples of good practice in housing and advice.
Who should attend?
Refugee community representatives and housing staff/volunteers working in Barking & Dagenham, Redbridge, Havering and Waltham Forest. Approximately 25% of places are available for mainstream voluntary and community organisations, housing associations and local authorities.
Course dates
Every Thursday from 5 June to 10 July 2008 . Trainees should be committed to attending all six days.
Focus group & final celebratory event
There will be a focus group to discuss the course content on the afternoon of 10 April 2008. All successful applicants are required to attend the focus group meeting as well as the final celebratory event (date to be confirmed).
Location
Training will be held in a central location to all four Outer East London boroughs. Refreshements and lunch will be provided.
Bursaries
This is a free training course. Hact also has a limited bursary fund to support trainees from non-funded groups who might need childcare subsidies and help with travel.
Who's involved?
This course is being run by hact in partnership with Refugee & Migrant Forum of East London (RAMFEL). It is part funded by the European Refugee Fund and East Foundation.
