For Refugees
Our Learning & Integration Unit (LIU) in the past few years has provided learning, development and employment opportunities for refugees and asylum seekers. Unfortunately due to funding problems, the service provided through this unit have now ended. We are currently reviewing what training services we will provide in this area and will update this section as soon as any new training is available.
In the meantime, please refer to our events diary for training and seminars provided by other agencies.
Small Grants Scheme - The John Frank Fund
The John Frank Fund can offer support towards course fees, educational travel costs, child care, exam fees and study materials. It is a flexible fund which focuses on supporting individuals who are in extreme financial difficulties and where a small grant may help them achieve their educational goals. Please Note: The maximum grant we can give is £150. Please do not apply for tuition fees in excess of this amount as your application will be refused. We do not have the funds to help with university degree tuition fees.
If you are interested in making an application to the John Frank Fund please complete and print the application form and return it to: Liz Wilkinson, Grants Committee, Refugee Council, 240 - 250 Ferndale Road, London SW9 8BB.
If you have any queries please email liz.wilkinson@refugeecouncil.org.uk
| Please Note: Due to unforeseen circumstances, we have had to temporarily suspend the John Frank Fund; no decisions on applications will be made at least until mid-December 2012. We apologise for any inconvenience this will cause |
For Refugee Community Organisations
In house training
The Development Team (DT) runs free in-house and London-wide training for refugee community organisations (RCOs). If your organisation needs specific training to be delivered at your premises, we can customise our in house training programme to suit your needs.
London wide training programme
The DT London-wide programme is designed to support and develop the work of London based RCOs. Our most recent London wide programme included: an introduction to influencing public policy, an introduction to family law, working with unaccompanied children, developing women’s services, annual accounts and auditing, and how to develop a successful fundraising strategy.
Seminars
The DT organises regular seminars to update refugee organisations on issues relevant to their work and to give organisations an opportunity to network and exchange experience with other refugee groups. Our seminars also aim to develop awareness among statutory and voluntary bodies and other agencies of the need and impact of services provided by RCOs. Previous seminars have focused on funding issues pertinent to RCOs, gender related issues, and changes in immigration and asylum policy. Our programme for seminars is currently being updated, we will update this page as soon as it is available.
