VRP activities

Information

  • Review the information needs of asylum seekers, refugees and those with other leave to remain in the UK who may opt for return to their country of origin
  • Produce and disseminate information on voluntary return programmes and other topics pertinent to voluntary return for individuals and their advisers
  • Explore country specific priorities and dissemination of information through outreach programmes
  • Research and produce information updates on voluntary return programmes operated in other countries
  • Provide a focal point for enquiries about voluntary return, including enquiries from RCOs, legal advisers, academics and researchers
  • Deliver presentation and familiarisation sessions about voluntary return to interested organisations

Policy and Programme Development

  • Contribute to the strategic development of voluntary return programmes in the UK
  • Participate in and support the Home Office’s Voluntary Return Steering Group
  • Participate in and provide information to the Voluntary Return and Unaccompanied Refugee Children Group

Co-ordination

  • Facilitate and resource the voluntary return implementation groups including the dissemination of minutes and supporting materials. These groups focus on Afghanistan and Iraq, and are attended by the Refugee Council, Refugee Action, British Red Cross, Foreign and Commonwealth Office, Home Office, International Organization for Migration (IOM), the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) and Safe Haven Yorkshire.
  • Develop and maintain contact with refugee communities to encourage their input into programmes and facilitate their contact with the Home Office
  • Facilitate and organise meetings between the Home Office and refugee community organisations for Afghanistan and Iraq.
