Voluntary Assisted Return and Reintegration Programme (VARRP) - Iraq

Asylum seekers, people whose applications have been refused and people with ELR or discretionary leave can get help under VARRP for assistance to return to Iraq. VARRP is run by IOM and can provide help with travel arrangements, and reintegration assistance.

IOM can organise return via scheduled flights Northern, Central and Southern Iraq .In addition, IOM may be able to arrange extra luggage allowance via certain routes if required. Applicants should contact IOM to discuss their specific requirements). IOM provides a ‘meet and greet’ service, organisation of onward travel and reintegration assistance for those landing in Northern Iraq. The 'meet and greet' service is not normally available for returns to Southern and Central Iraq, but in some cases IOM may be able to make the necessary arrangements subject to conditions on the ground.

Reintegration assistance can include, if required, extra baggage allowance, up to three months temporary accommodation following return and payment of childcare fees for infants. Each returnee will be able to draw up an Individual (or family) Return Plan with IOM and choose help with:

  • small business set-up; or
  • schooling fees; or
  • vocational training; or
