Campaigning is a vital part of the activity of the Refugee Council; it's how we bring the issues that matter for refugees to the notice of both the public, and the people who we are trying to influence.
We choose the issues we campaign about after thinking about our key priorities - but also taking into account what is happening in government, and the plans of other groups, including refugee support groups. Working with other groups not only strengthens the influence we can bring, by reaching out beyond our supporters, but also helps to show that our issues are closely linked to others, for example around poverty or health care.
We also try to make sure that we can react to events as they affect asylum seekers - though we can't campaign on behalf of individuals. We know that the really important campaigning work usually occurs locally, where the real effects of poor policy are felt.
We are building a base of support across the country – and we aim to communicate regularly with these people who will be vital for our future success. Our campaigners get involved in many different actions - from viral actions to vigils – keeping the pressure on MPs and others who need to be reminded about our work and the problems facing our clients.
