Increasingly, policy decisions that affect refugee and asylum seekers happen at European and international level. The Refugee Council works with other refugee councils and organisation across Europe to advocate for a clear, transparent, fair and humane system for all refugees and asylum seekers.
We are also a founding member of the European Council on Refugees and Exiles (ECRE). ECRE is an umbrella organisation of 80 refugee-assisting agencies in 30 countries in Europe working towards fair and humane policies for the treatment of asylum seekers and refugees.
Principal activities include: policy development and research, advocacy, legal analysis, information services to members, networking and capacity-building in South-Eastern, Central and Eastern Europe. ECRE's work is coordinated by the Secretariat in London and an office in Brussels.
ECRE also gathers vital statistics on refugees and asylum seekers in each of the member countries.
The Refugee Council's European Integration Project (EIP) is also funded through the European Refugee Fund - Community Actions, as part of European Council on Refugees and Exiles (ECRE) co-ordinated projects.
