Refugees into business

In 2004, the UK government’s Small Business Service invited the Refugee Council to bring together a partnership of agencies to develop and implement a proposal to assist refugees to set up or sustain their own businesses.

Led by the Refugee Council, the Refugee Enterprise Partnership was formed, The partnership set up the Refugees into Business project.

The key objective of the Refugees into Business project is to provide a long-term improvement in the support available for refugees wishing to set up in business. The project aims are to:

  • provide key guides and resources to would-be refugee entrepreneurs on starting their own business
  • provide advice and information to business advisers and refugee community organisations to help support refugee entrepreneurs
  • pilot training courses in the West Midlands and the North West to refugees, business advisers and refugee community organisations using the Refugees into business material
  • create a website where the resources could be accessed and disemminated

Go to the Refugees into Business website to find out more about the project, the partners and the resources available.

The project ended in 2006.
