Zimbabwean refugee Harris Nyatsanza meets Gordon Brown
23 April 2007
Harris Nyatsanza, leader of the United Network of Detained Zimbabweans (UNDZ), was runner-up for a Sheila Mc Kechnie Campaigner of the Year awards. As founder of the UNDZ, Harris was nominated for the award by the Campaigns team at the Refugee Council, who have been working with Harris on his campaign for the rights of Zimbabwean asylum seekers in the UK. Harris was runner-up in the Social Inclusion category, and was invited to a reception at 11 Downing Street to meet Gordon Brown. He says of the experience: “I am grateful and humbled by the Refugee Council’s nomination of me to the Sheila McKechnie Foundation awards. Being invited to Downing Street for the awards ceremony was an amazing experience and the climax of my political life that opened several doors for us. For me personally I will always remember the occasion , never in my life did I ever imagine that I would ever end up in Downing Street and meeting the next British Prime Minister.” Reception at the Refugee Council |
