Refugee Council response to the UK Border Agency consultation on charging for immigration and visa applications

The Refugee Council has responded to the UKBA consultation on charging for immigration and visa applications. Our response sets out our concerns around the proposed changes to the fees charged for permanent settlement (indefinite leave to remain) and naturalisation (citizenship). Our main recommendations are that applications for permanent settlement should remain free of charge for refugees; fees charged for citizenship should reflect a refugee’s ability to pay and the Government’s commitment to supporting the integration of refugees in the UK.
