Independent Asylum Commission: Fit for purpose yet?

Fit for Purpose Yet?: The Independent Asylum Commission’s Interim Findings [Chris Hobson, Jonathan Cox and Nicholas Sagovsky, March 2008]

This is the Independent Asylum Commission’s report of Interim Findings. Fit for Purpose Yet? contains the evidence gathered in the largest review of asylum policy ever undertaken. The report finds that the UK asylum has improved and is improving, but is not fit for purpose yet.

The interim findings include concerns about how we decide who need sanctuary (decision-making and legal representation), how we treat people seeking sanctuary (detention and treatment of vulnerable groups) and what happens when we refuse people sanctuary (destitution and returns).
