Saving Sanctuary: How we restore public support for sanctuary and improve the way we decide who needs sanctuary [Independent Asylum Commission,Chris Hobson, Jonathan Cox and Nicholas Sagovsky, May 2008]
This is the Independent Asylum Commission’s first report of conclusions and recommendations. Saving Sanctuary repeats the Commission’s Interim Findings published earlier this year, along with a response to each finding from the UK Border Agency, an assessment of the UKBA response, and finally 64 recommendations to restore public support for sanctuary and improve the way we decide who needs sanctuary.
The recommendations include ensuring effective communication with the public about people seeking sanctuary, changing the asylum system so that it is line with five mainstream British values identified by the Commission’s public attitudes research, and continuing to improve the way the government makes asylum decisions.
