This report examines the experiences of unaccompanied children claiming asylum at a screening unit (ASU) following a visit by the Children’s Commissioner to the ASU in 2007. it contains a useful overview of this stage of the asylum determination process, comments upon some of the policies and practices, including age disputes, and makes recommendations for a more child friendly method of screening children who claim asylum alone.
