Return to uncertainty
Examining in detail the developments in the peace process in Sri Lanka in 2002 and potential for repatriation [July 2002]
This report examines in detail the current developments in the peace process in Sri Lanka, outlines some of the continuing problems that may de-stabilise the process and considers the impact of refugee returns to the country.
There are indications that Western governments may see the peace process as a green light to the large-scale repatriation of Sri Lankan refugees. Sri Lanka: return to uncertainty demonstrates that talk of large-scale returns is injudicious while the situation in Sri Lanka is so uncertain and there are as yet no mechanisms to guarantee the safety and dignity of the returnees.
