Education of Refugee Children
Daring to dream: Raising the achievement of 14 to 16 year old asylum-seeking and refugee children and young people [October 2005]
Children and young people are integral to the success of UK government’s refugee integration strategy, to breaking down barriers between refugee and settled communities and the creation of cohesive communities. Furthermore, for young refugee and asylum-seeking people, school provides stability and normality that mitigate the negative effects of traumatic experiences. The theme of this research and report is the success and achievement of these children and young people in education. The aim is to expand the evidence base that informs education practice and further research on support for 14 to 16 year-old young asylum-seeking people and young refugees, and to inform and influence the development of national guidance from the Department for Education and Skills (DfES).
