Poverty and asylum in the UK
Poverty and asylum in the UK [July 2002]
A joint report by Oxfam and the Refugee Council which reveals that asylum seekers are suffering from poverty levels and hardships unacceptable in a civilised society and puts forward key recommendations to improve this situation. Poverty and asylum in the UK is based on findings from 40 organisations that work directly with asylum seekers and which show that asylum seekers' basic needs are not being adequately met by current state provision. Evidence from the report was presented in amendments to the Nationality, Immigration and Asylum Bill tabled in the House of Lords on Wednesday 10 July. Published on July 2002
