Operation of the EU’s external borders agency
Refugee Council and the European Council on Refugees and Exiles (ECRE) joint response to the Select Committee on the European Union Sub-Committee F (Home Affairs): Frontex Inquiry [September 2007]
In July 2007, Sub-Committee F (Home Affairs) of the House of Lords Select Committee on the European Union launched an inquiry into Frontex, the European Agency for the Management of Operational Cooperation at the External Borders of the EU Member States. This document contains the joint evidence submitted to this inquiry by the International Protection Policy Team at the Refugee Council, and the European Council on Refugees and Exiles. The evidence focuses on whether Frontex operations are carried out with full respect for international legal, political and moral obligations, with particular reference to individuals in mixed migration flows who may be in need of international protection. It also provides an assessment of the level of democratic accountability, transparency and independent monitoring of all Frontex procedures.
