Prevention of illegal working

Refugee Council reponse to the Home Office consultation on the prevention of illegal migrant working [July 2007]

The Home Office issued its consultation on preventing illegal working which will lead to a new Code being issued later in 2007. The Refugee Council responded to the consultation providing recommendations for better supporting refugee and asylum seekers with permission to work. Our response includes a number of concerns around the negative impact of limited leave to remain for refugees, the use of the Employer’s Helpline, the role of employers in immigration issues and the potential for direct and indirect discrimination against refugees and asylum seekers with permission to work.
