Integration and cohesion

Inter-agency partnership response to Commission on Integration and Cohesion Consultation [May 2007]

This paper summarises points to consider when incorporating the experiences and aspirations of asylum seekers and refugees into efforts to promote cohesion and integration.

It emphasises the need for language support for asylum seekers and refugees, and for impartial information about asylum for host communities. It highlights the importance of refugee community organisations. It recommends that: "All asylum seekers and refugees should be entitled to a level of support which meets their basic needs and does not mean that they are set apart from other members of the community because of extreme poverty or destitution."
