Organisations providing specialist support

In addition to the key refugee agencies, there are other organisations which support refugees and asylum seekers. Many deal with a specific areas such as health, housing, education or employment.

Asylum Support Appeals Project
The Asylum Support Appeals Project provides free legal representation, advice and information about entitlements to asylum support, including the right to appeal when this support is refused or withdrawn.

Education Action International
Education Action International provides support and advice on education and employment as well as advocating for the rights of refugees and asylum seekers.

Helen Bamber Foundation
The Helen Bamber Foundation combines psychological and physical therapies to help address profound injuries resulting from war, torture and rape.

LORECA (London Refugee Economic Action)
LORECA is a unit within the London Development Agency that works to promote refugee employment, training and enterprise in London through strategic and policy interventions. It serves as a 'link body' to the Mayor's Board for Refugee Integration for London. Its website has an online directory of over 850 service providers in London and in the South East.

Medical Foundation for the Care of Victims of Torture
The Medical Foundation for the Care of Victims of Torture provides care and rehabilitation to survivors of torture and other forms of organised violence.

Praxis
Praxis supports individual new residents to access the resources needed to settle well in the UK. It also helps the development of new communities.

Red Cross
The British Red Cross provides an international tracing and message service which works worldwide to restore and maintain contact between families by exchanging messages and searching for missing relatives.

Refugees in Effective and Active Partnership offers a range of practical advice and support services for refugees and asylum seekers in London and in other areas of unmet need.
