Some Afghans who were eligible could return with assistance from the Return to Afghanistan Programme (Resettlement Grant). Afghans who had refugee status and/or ILR, or some other leave to remain, could also get help to prepare for permanent return from the Explore and Prepare, Afghanistan programme. The Border and Immigration Agency have advised that both these programmes will cease from 1 April 2008.
