We are committed to protecting your privacy. We will only use the information that we have about you in accordance with the Data Protection Act 1998.
We are required by law to tell you what information we keep on file and what we use it for. If you think that you may wish to object please read the information below first, especially the part which tells you what we do not do with information about you. If you do want to have a copy of the information we have on you, we are allowed to make a small charge to cover the administration costs involved in providing it.
We hold information that is necessary for the administration of your direct debit and to keep you informed of the Refugee Council’s work, activities, news and events.
- Your name and address.
- Your e-mail, if you have told us.
- Your telephone number, if you have told us.
- Your date of birth, if you have told us.
- Details of any donations you make (date, amount, appeal code). We have a legal responsibility to keep track of these details.
- A note of whether you pay UK income tax, again if you have told us. This is used to enable us to claim the tax you have already paid on your donations from the Inland Revenue.
- Details of any direct debits.
- Details of any appeals, publications etc you receive and details of any contact we have with you.
- A note of whether you remember the Refugee Council in your will, if you inform us.
Access to Refugee Council’s data is secured and protected. It is restricted to a limited number of fully trained staff within the organisation.
The Refugee Council will disclose this information to other organisations solely in connection with the administration and the processing of your donations, in particular on-line donations, payroll giving or direct debits donations. The only other outside bodies who might receive some information from us would be agents such as the mailing service who pack and send out our newsletters. These agents have a legal responsibility to use our information only for the purpose for which we supply it. They may not use it to contact you on their own behalf or on behalf of other organisations.
We may wish to contact you by phone, post or email to update you on our work, special events, appeals or campaigns. Please let us know in writing, stating your full name and address, if you do not wish to be kept informed of the Refugee Council’s activities. In accordance with the 1998 Data Protection Act, we will hold your details to provide you with updates and appeals. If you do not wish to receive any future information from the Refugee Council please write to us at the address below. From time to time we exchange supporter details with other, like-minded charities, if you would rather your name was not included please also let us know.
