Latest fundraising successes

Supporters have gone the extra mile to show their support to refugees this summer. Their enthusiasm and determination mean so much to us as we celebrate our anniversary this year. Thank you and congratulations to all!

Aboodi participated in the popular London to Paris bike ride. He cycled 237 miles in 3 days and raised a fantastic £1,250.

For Ella, cycling is a family affair. Along with her father and brother, Ella travelled by bike a 286 mile route linking London to Amsterdam. Their challenge lasted 4 days and raised £600.

Not only did Sile choose to cycle 120 miles from London to the Suffolk Coast, she completed her challenge overnight! Sile’s Dunwich Dynamo cycle ride raised £385.

Our enthusiastic team of 8 ran the popular British 10K through the heart of the capital in excellent time and raised an amazing £906 for our Day Centre in Brixton. Hats off to David, Elina, Sara, Ashok, Tahir, John, Ommera and Chris!

Wanausha and her 7 year old daughter ran the Santa Fun Run for us in December. Together they ran 5k in their Santa suits, and have raised £120 for the Refugee Council so far! Thank you to both of our Santas and their supporters. Wanausha Santa

Berlin Marathon

Robert Elliott ran the Berlin Marathon in September in 4 hours 18 minutes and has so far raised a mammoth £1015 for the Refugee Council, thanks Rob!

Cycling from Saigon to Angkor Wat

When Anne set herself the challenge to cycle 500km to support refugees, she called her friends to join a pub quiz and an accessorize swap at home. All three fundraising events and a strong network of supporters helped her raise an amazing £3,000.

Paris Marathon and Virgin London Marathon runners raise £1,000

Virgin London MarathonHilary was one of the runners to brave the cobbled streets of Paris last April. Thanks to her determination, Hilary raised £575 to help our vital work. When Peter got his own place to run the 2011 Virgin London Marathon, he chose to show his support to refugees. He finished the race in excellent time and exceeded his target by raising £526. Thank you Hilary and Peter!

Care home residents complete half-marathon

Residents of a care home in South London raised sponsorship money by doing a half marathon in Zimmer frames, wheelchairs, and sticks. The required 13 miles were completed over a period of a month! £516 was raised as a result of the residents’ proud efforts and fantastic initiative. An idea which will hopefully inspire others… Our heartfelt thanks to all at the Duchesne House!

Sponsored Silence Day

A 10-year-old supporter of the Refugee Council undertook a ‘Sponsored Silence Day’ at school. Calling on her friends and family to sponsor her challenge, she was able to raise a fantastic donation of £170!

Recycling cars raise money!

Refugee Council supporters have raised over £400 after disposing of their old cars through the Giveacar scheme. Disposing of your car through Giveacar is hassle free, environmentally friendly and will not cost you anything. What better and easier way to donate to the Refugee Council’s life saving work?
