RefuTEAs hosted across the UK

In December 2011 RefuTEA parties were held across the UK for Human Rights Day. People from various parts of the country showed their support and solidarity for the rights of refugees by hosting RefuTEAs either at their home, work place, school or local church.

Felicity Paris told us about her RefuTEA: “It was the first tea party I’d ever held, but it went really well. I held it at my own house and invited my family, friends and work colleagues to drop in anytime between 11am - 2pm. To get people talking to each other and enjoying themselves, we did a multiple choice quiz about asylum seekers and refugees. Some of my guests were really surprised at some of the answers so it helped them to question some of their own assumptions about refugees and asylum seekers. My guests said they'd had a wonderful time.”

RefuTEA will be returning in June for Refugee Week, so keep your ideas brewing for the summer! To find out more, visit our RefuTEA page on our website.

Here are some more examples of people across the UK putting the kettle on for the rights of refugees by hosting their own RefuTEAs:

Is your RefuTEA not here? Send us an email with your photos and we’ll add them to our RefuTEA albums!

Hosting a RefuTEA allows us to continue our services, helping thousands of refugees get the vital help they need to rebuild their lives.

We want to thank all of our RefuTEA hosts and supporters for their generosity and for making this happen.

Why your RefuTEA matters

Every day we meet asylum seekers and refugees who have fled the most unimaginable situations, including war, torture and persecution. They are simply looking for a place of safety, as any of us would.
Flaws in the decision-making process mean too many people who genuinely need protection here are turned down. They then live in limbo – unable to return home safely, forbidden from working and reliant on very limited financial support, or left destitute and homeless. As a result, many live in poverty and have poor health. Some estimates suggest that there are around 500,000 destitute, refused asylum seekers living in Britain.
Your RefuTEA will help us raise the vital funds we need to continue our life saving and life changing work. We can’t think of a better reason to put the kettle on.
