Your questions answered

What is Gift Aid?

Gift Aid allows us to reclaim the basic rate of tax on donations received from UK tax payers. This means that we can claim an extra 28p for every £1 we are given.

This is a great way of maximising the value of donations at no extra cost to you. If you are a UK tax payer, all you have to do is sign the Gift Aid declaration below. By signing the declaration we can reclaim tax on all donations we have received from you in the previous six years, and on any future donations you may make.

What if I’m a pensioner?

You may still pay tax on a private pension plan or a savings account, or pay capital gains tax if you sell property or shares. If so, please complete and return your form to explain that you are a tax payer.

Are you a higher rate tax payer?

We can still only claim back at the basic rate but please complete and return the Declaration anyway. However you can tick a box on your self assessment tax return form nominating the Refugee Council to receive the other 18%.

I am not a UK tax payer

Please let us know if you do not pay tax by calling us on 020 7346 1205 and we will put a note on your records. Thank you.
