For the year ending 31 March 2009 the Refugee Council had an income of £18,024,000, and an expenditure of £17,358,000. As the leading charity working with refugees in the UK we received £14,635,000 from statutory funders to deliver mainstream services on behalf of government agencies. This includes £11,188,000 from the UK Border Agency (obtained through competitive tendering) to provide advice and support services to asylum seekers in four regions.

In 2008/9 we raised £3,110,000 from voluntary sources. This includes donations from individuals and fundraising events and we also receive generous support from a number of charitable trusts and foundations, charitable companies and agencies.

We rely entirely on voluntary donations to research, campaign and lobby Parliament on legislations of concern, to run our day centre for destitute refugees and deliver direct specialist services to vulnerable groups, traumatised men, women who have been victim of sexual violence and separated refugee children whose special needs are not covered by mainstream services. Throughout the UK, some refugees are so close to the edge that they are being forced to live in the most desperate and degrading of circumstances.
