Women seeking asylum in the UK face particular barriers to securing protection, and the Refugee Council works in a number of ways to try to ensure that women are treated fairly and with dignity.

Supporting Refugee Community Organisations

Very often, the most vulnerable refugees in the UK turn to their own communities for support when are feeling lonely and isolated in an unfamiliar world.

Detention

At any one time in the UK, more than 2000 people are detained under Immigration Act powers in immigration removal centres (also called detention centres) and prisons.
