At the Refugee Council we find there is still a lot of confusion among the public about why people come to the UK to claim asylum. It’s simple really, we say – they are escaping from danger, looking for safety.
But as this edition of Update shows, just because a person has escaped the most terrible persecution doesn’t mean they’re a hopeless victim who needs to be supported for the rest of their days.
Our supporters will go the extra mile to help refugees through their difficulties. Refugees also want to help themselves, to make a contribution – and they won’t give up. Neither will we.
