Guide to making homelessness applications

Refugees are eligible to make homelessness applications and should be able to access accommodation from a local authority if they are homeless, not intentionally homeless and have a priority need for accommodation. Even though they have these entitlements, we know that many refugees struggle to access local authority accommodation, and organisations supporting them can face difficulties navigating the process.

We have produced a guide to help anyone supporting refugees make homelessness applications to local authorities. With a particular focus on the needs and entitlements of newly recognised adult refugees who have a priority need for accommodation due to their vulnerability, the guide is the result of learning gained from two years of research and monitoring homelessness applications made by refugees in London.  The guide was funded by Trust For London and is a useful handbook that brings together information about refugees and the homelessness application process.
