Higher rate taxpayers

Higher Rate Tax Payers

If you pay tax at a higher rate then you are entitled to claim back the difference between the higher rate of tax (40% and/or 45%) and the basic rate of tax (20%) on the total 'gross' value of any size of donation you make to the Refugee Council.

For example:
If you are a 40% / 45%  rate taxpayer and you make a donation of £1,000 the total value of the gift to us is £1,250 as we can claim gift aid of £250 (20% of the total donation). You are entitled to claim back a further £250 (20%) or £312.50 (25%) paid on the original gift depending on how much tax you pay.

You can make this claim on your Self Assessment Tax Return. For more info please click here to visit HMRC's website for more information.
