Children’s Section of the Refugee Council

The Refugee Council works to improve the lives of separated children in the UK. Around 3000 separated children arrive in the country each year, seeking safety from countries that are experiencing conflict and which may have little infrastructure to care for and protect children. As well as providing advice and support, we aim to offer educational and leisure activities to young people

Youth Development Project

The YDP is funded by the Refugee Council and is part of the Children’s Section. The project supports refugee and asylum seeking children, both unaccompanied and in families, to achieve in education and enjoy recreational activities.

 The Social Activities

We run activities every Monday (4pm – 7pm), Tuesday (4pm-6pm), Wednesday (4pm – 7pm) and Friday (3pm – 5pm) for over 10 years. These are the most permanent features in youth activities for refugee and asylum seeking young people. It offers recreational and educational games, activities, support, presentations, food and warmth to 40-100 young people every week. These social activities are run in partnership with the Separated Child Foundation, Young Roots and SoundMix.

The Refugee Council is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment.
