The Refugee Council is very concerned about the Immigration and Citizenship Bill. We are often concerned by legislation because of the continued detrimental impact that it has on asylum seekers and refugees in the UK. But we are particularly concerned about this latest Bill, because it aims to consolidate and simplify all the asylum and immigration legislation of the past 10 years.
At the moment we only have the Draft (partial) version of the Bill – with more detail to come in 2009. The Home Affairs Select Committee is conducting an inquiry into the Bill, and tomorrow Donna Covey, our Chief Executive, will be a witness before the Committee. You will be able to watch it live here.
If you want to read more about our concerns about the Draft (partial) Immigration and Citizenship Bill (including probationary citizenship, re-entry bans and protection-sensitve borders), you can download the written briefing we gave to the Committee here.
