Thavarani Nagulendram – Londoner of the Day

Congratulations to Thavarani Nagulendram of the Tamil Community Centre, who was profiled as Londoner of the Day on the website London 24, and has won a London Star award from the Mayor of London.

More than 5,000 came for help at The Tamil Community Centre last year with problems as diverse as poor health, money worries and domestic violence. A community member, commenting on her nomination as Londoner of the Day said:

‘Thavarani Nagulendram of the Tamil Community Centre absolutely deserves to have the title as Londoner of the Day for her sincere and dedicated concerns and works towards her community which is facing enormous social conflicts and disorders. The great positive side of hers is her confidence that she can do lot without resources needed for her works. She keeps her all works in very low profile without making much noise. Being a woman and a house wife it is not an easy task in her community to get involve in the social works. Her perseverance and will to keep help her society overcome all practical hurdles. Her social works cover almost all aspects of a society. Her community are very pleased for her to have the title ” Londoner of the Day “.’

Much of the success of the Tamil Community Centre is gained through working collaboratively with other organisations. You can find out more about how they worked collaboratively to deliver a Refugee Week event by reading their ‘experience paper’ commissioned by the Basis Project.
