For those interested in working with refugees or people seeking asylum, or are new to the sector.
Claiming Asylum and seeking support as a newly recognised Refugee are complex processes, and at times are tasks that can seem insurmountable. For those interested or new to working in the sector, our half-day introduction to asylum and supporting refugees covers what we consider to be the must-knows. Informed by the work of front-line staff, we walk participants through the journeys and potential experiences of clients prior to and after arrival in the UK, exploring terms and definitions, and key considerations for enabling positive employment and integration.
Aims and Objectives
Participants will gain understanding of four key areas of working with clients, all focused on the refugee experience:
- Key definitions within the Asylum and Refugee experience
- Barriers and enablers to integration and employment
- An overview of mental health support, and warning indicators of poor mental health
- Best practice when working with refugees
