Course Overview

Transition to adulthood can be a stressful time for separated young people. The change of their legal status can have a substantial impact on their rights and entitlements, and they often fear to be removed from the UK. It is therefore particularly important that professionals are well equipped to support young people throughout the process. This course will provide participants with a clear understanding of what kind of support separated young people are entitled as they turn 18.

Aims and objectives

  • Preparing for turning 18
  • Different immigration status possibilities at 18
  • The Leaving Care Act – including 13 week rule
  • Entitlements to ongoing support based on status
  • Human Rights assessments
