The Refugee Council is pleased to announce the appointment of Shān Nicholas as interim Chief Executive. She will join the organisation on 24 September 2012.
Shān has extensive experience working in and leading large voluntary and public sector organisations. Her most recent roles included working as interim CEO at the Children’s Society and the Child Poverty Action Group (CPAG). She has overseen major service delivery as well as advocacy and campaigning work focusing on poverty, race and exclusion. Her previous roles also include working at the British Institute for Human Rights, the College for Social Work, and the Runnymede Trust.
Shān replaces Donna Covey who stepped down on 31 August 2012 after five years of outstanding service. The recruitment process for a permanent chief executive is currently underway.
Douglas Board, Chair of the Refugee Council said:
“We are delighted to appoint Shān Nicholas as interim Chief Executive. Her wide-ranging skills and expertise leading charitable organisations, and her experience in and commitment to issues facing the most marginalised people in society, will be a powerful asset.”
Shān Nicholas said:
“I am very pleased to be joining the Refugee Council whose work I have come across on many occasions. I am very much looking forward to working with their dedicated team of staff, volunteers, and member and partner organisations, to ensure the organisation can continue its excellent work to support asylum seekers and refugees here.”
