A new Minister for of State for nationality, citizenship and immigration was part of the announcement from Home Secretary John Reid of his ministerial team, yesterday, 22nd May.
Liam Byrne MP, who has only been at the Home Office for two weeks since Tony Blair’s reshuffle on May 5, will take over from Tony McNulty MP, who has been moved to the position of Minister of State for policing, security and community safety.
The move follows a series of recent immigration controversies. Mr Reid will face questions on a number of these from the Commons Home Affairs Committee today.
