Prime Minister proposes reform of European court: our response

In response to the Prime Minister’s speech calling for the European Court of Human Rights in Strasbourg to be reformed, Donna Covey, Chief Executive of the Refugee Council said:

” The court has protected the rights of many UK residents who have been let down by our justice system and it is important that this safeguard exists to hold our government to account when necessary. Some of the most vulnerable people in our society, including those who have fled atrocities and persecution, have had to seek redress in the ECHR after the UK asylum system has let them down. Human rights are universal and we must respect that by allowing the court to be equally accessible to all.”
